The U.S. Needs an Immediate Moratorium on All Immigration

The Wuhan Coronavirus pandemic has taken over 89,000 American lives since it began only a few months ago. Over 4.6 million people have been infected across the globe. 33 million Americans have lost their jobs since the pandemic began. This is a disaster, and it is the job of Congress and our federal government to mitigate this problem.

Some conservative lawmakers past and present have correctly advocated for the federal government to ban all immigration to the United States until Americans get back to work. Before we bring in legal immigrants into the country, we must first take care of our neighbors suffering at home.

President Trump and his administration must continue to delegate powers to the states. Those closest to the problems know best how to fix them. Governors and local municipalities should be in control of re-opening, but they should do so immediately.

That being said, the federal government absolutely has a role in halting all immigration to this country until we can get our economy back to its pre-pandemic boom. Our government has the duty to protect our inalienable rights of life, liberty, and property— and it is time for Nancy Pelosi and Congressional Democrats to step up.

Many Democrats across the U.S. have absolutely no problem telling Americans how to live their lives and run their businesses, while they sit in the comfort of their own homes, receiving their paychecks and proposing the asinine idea of remote voting. If our great first responders, nurses, and many other professionals can get to work, Congressional Democrats can as well.

Every American is an essential worker. It’s time to reopen. Studies have shown that 1 in 5 restaurants could permanently close due to this pandemic. Driving up our national debt and treating Americans like children is not the way to show you have our best interests at heart.

Congress should immediately convene and take up the bills that have been proposed to suspend immigration. Foreign workers should not be able to enter the U.S. and take the jobs waiting to be filled by the millions of Americans out of work. The United States is unsustainable on our current pathway.

The U.S. should still welcome foreign visitors and investments, but a moratorium on immigration until Americans are back to work is justified. This cannot be stressed enough. Over 1.4 million temporary work visas have been granted per year, and we will surely see calls for this number to rise due to the pandemic. Our Congressmen and women from both parties should not cave into these calls, and instead focus on the constituents that elected them.

Introducing multi-trillion dollar stimulus packages packed with leftist proposals will not solve the elephant in the room— the many Americans struggling to find employment, put food on the table, and provide a living for their families across the country. Moreover, drafting and then passing legislation that allows Americans to receive more money on unemployment than when they were fully employed simply de-incentivizes people to search for work.

Americans are smart enough to make decisions about their own lives. We are completely capable of weighing the pros and cons of going back to work— but many Democrats across the country aren’t even allowing us to make that choice. Instead, they are implementing full-blown authoritarian policies. What happened to the land of the free?

It is time to step up and implement laws which will protect our land, provide ample opportunities for our fellow citizens, and protect the rights which we hold dear.
